Raging Bulls Welcome Bob Schloegel and Mike Malfer
The Raging Bulls have added two impressive names to the team in 2014. Welcome Mike Malfer and Bob Schloegel. Both Mike and Bob are veteran triathletes competing not only locally, but across the globe. Both are USAT All Americans and proficient at distances from short course racing to the full Ironman distance.
Mike Malfer: To date, Mike has been the busiest Bull in 2014, already completing Ironman California 70.3 in Oceanside where he placed 15th AG and Ironman Florida 70.3 in Orlando where he placed 9th AG. Mike will be racing Ironman Texas in two weeks and Ironman Lake Placid at the end of July. We are sure there will be a few other races sprinkled in to keep him busy. Mike is a consistent qualifier for the 70.3 World Championships, and boasts PRs of 4:33 at the 70.3 distance and 10:14 for a full Ironman.
Bob Schloegel: Bob also has a busy 2014 planned. Having already secured his spot in the Ironman World Championships in Kona this coming October, Bob started the season working on his run fitness, finishing the Little Rock Marathon in 3:17:27, which was good enough for 6th in his AG and a qualifying spot in the 2015 Boston Marathon. Bob's plans include racing the Kansas City Triathlon, Ironman KS 70.3, and finishing the season on the podium at the Ironman World Championship, and possibly the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Mont-Tremblant. Bob's qualification for the Ironman World Championship is his 13th, having previously earned a spot on the podium in the world’s most competitive triathlon. Although Bob's racing days pre-date the internet, the work of the Raging Bull research staff (which included some intense, post swim questioning of knowledgeable parties in the hot tub at the JCC) has learned that Bob has a PR of 4:09 at the 70.3 distance and 9:24 for a full Ironman. In recent years, Bob has also participated in some endurance gravel (most notably the Dirty Kanza) and road racing locally … something Malfer is clearly afraid to do.
Of note, Bob is also a physician, rounding out the number of Raging Bull doctors at 10 far ahead of lawyers (2), office supply executives (2), real estate agents (2), uniform hawkers (1) and Loch Lloyd cabana boys (1). Bob specializes in pediatric medicine, so those Bulls that moan and complain about the pace on Saturday rides might want to make an appointment with “Dr. Schloegel” to see what’s wrong … that is, at least until we find a gynecologist fast enough to join our group.
